1.Check the entire equipment before you start driving them. You need to check the brakes, tyres and other controls before you start it so that there is no risk of accident. It is not advisable to use it even if a single part of it is not in the working condition.

2.Wear proper clothing suitable for the working environment. Wear all the personal protective equipments like a tough cap, hi visibility jackets and safety shoes so that there is no injury even if the accident occurs.

3.Before you start the vehicle, make sure you are properly seated on your driver sit and all the parts of your body are properly confined into the forklift cabin. Adjust the mirror and fasten the seatbelts. Also, it is advisable to check that all the parts controls are in your reach.

4.Know all the rules and regulations before you start your truck. You must know all the details like maximum weight of load allowed, the designated roadway and maximum permitted height, to name a few.

5.One of the most important tips is to never to cross the speed limit. It is advisable to drive the truck at slow speed; especially at the turnings to minimise the risk of tipping.

6.Keep distance from the other trucks so that you have got enough space to stop and park safely in the designated area. Lower down the forks, apply the park brakes, turn the forklift off and remove the key.

UK company “seriously considering” GPS tracking devices in school uniforms

Saturday, August 25, 2007

The leading supplier of school uniforms in the United Kingdom, Lancashire-based manufacturer Trutex, has announced it is “seriously considering” including GPS tracking devices in future ranges of its uniform products after conducting an online survey of both parents and children.

“As a direct result of the survey, we are now seriously considering incorporating a [tracking] device into future ranges” said Trutex marketing director Clare Rix.

The survey questioned 809 parents and 444 children aged nine to 16. It showed that 44% of parents were worried about the safety of pre-teen children, and 59% wanted tracking devices installed in school apparel. 39% of children aged nine to 12 were prepared to wear clothing with tracking devices in them, while teenagers were notably less enthusiastic and more wary of what Trutex has admitted they see as a “big brother” concept.

However, Trutex has claimed the tracking devices would bring about worthwhile benefits, including being a valuable resource for parents who wanted to keep a close eye on where their children were at all times.

“As well as being a safety net for parents, there could be real benefits for schools who could keep a closer track on the whereabouts of their pupils, potentially reducing truancy levels” says Rix.

Each year, Trutex supplies 1 million blouses, 1.1 million shirts, 250,000 pairs of trousers, 20,000 blazers, 60,000 skirts and 110,000 pieces of knitwear to the UK.

It is not the first company to manufacture school uniforms with a central focus on child safety; last week Essex firm BladeRunner revealed it was selling stab-proof school blazers to parents concerned about violence against their children. The blazers were outfitted with Kevlar, a synthetic fibre used in body armour. It has already received orders internationally, including Australia.

If the Trutex tracking devices go ahead, it is unclear where in the uniform they will be located.

Microsoft extends warranty for all Xbox 360s

Saturday, December 23, 2006

On December 22, 2006 Microsoft has announced that it has extended its warranty for all Xbox 360 video game consoles to one year in the United States. While this one year warranty applies to all Xbox 360 software as well, Xbox 360 accessories will still carry their original 90 day warranty.

According to a statement by Microsoft:

“Customers that experience hardware issues with their Xbox 360 within one year of purchase will have their consoles repaired at no cost. Moreover, the new warranty policy is retroactive, so consumers that may have already paid for out-of-warranty Xbox 360 repair within one year of the console’s purchase will be eligible for reimbursement of their console repair charges.”

This extension should help ease customers’ minds who have been concerned with the Xbox 360’s reputation for hardware failures. A partial list of hardware issues can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems

People who have paid for Xbox 360 repair will be automatically distributed a reimbursement check in about 10 weeks from the present date.

Previously in September, 2006, Microsoft had waived the cost for repairs on all Xbox 360 consoles made before January 1, 2006, and refunded any fees already paid.

A full description of the updated warranty can be found here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemsetup/xbox360/resources/warranty.htm

Heatwave sweeps USA, many struggling to keep cool

Tuesday, July 18, 2006

Temperatures as high as 111°F (48°C) have hit the United States today, a continuation of Monday’s triple-digit (Fahrenheit) record highs in some areas.

High energy costs have many elderly and low income citizens keeping the air conditioning off, fixed incomes being blamed in many cases. In response to this, cities such as Chicago and New York have turned some public facilities into “cooling areas” for the duration. Buildings being converted include homeless shelters, senior centers, libraries and shopping malls. State agencies are urging anyone experiencing heat related symptoms to get to one of these places as soon as possible.

Early reports are attributing at least three dead from heat related complications in Philadelphia, Arkansas, and Indiana

The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag warnings for six states, warning that the heat could easily lead to forest fires. Much of the northeast corridor and central plains states have been issued heat warnings.

Relief is in sight for the northeast, with storms bringing cooler weather from the Ohio Valley through New England; however the central part of the US won’t see a break in the heat until the weekend.

Thinking Of Trying Out Vaping? Where Do You Buy An Electronic Cigarette?

byAlma Abell

If ever there was a product crying out to be developed, it was the electronic cigarette. For years, there has been debate over the health hazards associated with any sort of tobacco consumption. But, a large number of people still either choose to smoke, or refuse to give up smoking.

The electronic cigarette (e-cig) is a battery powered device that can be used to vaporize a liquid into an aerosol that can be sucked into ones mouth and inhaled in the same way as tobacco smoke. The word “vaping” has been coined to describe the action. The vapor looks like smoke; but is without all the “chemicals” that are given off by burning tobacco. Additionally, it quickly condenses and does not hang around in the air for bystanders to breathe.

Some e-cigs are disposable and imitate the shape and size of a traditional tobacco cigarette. Others look more like a miniature hookah. But their operation is similar; they will have a heating element that atomizes a liquid (known as e-juice) that usually contains nicotine, and flavorings. With the hookah type, the users get to choose their own mix and can even leave out both the nicotine and the flavorings.

Although some tobacco companies have introduced e-cigs; they are by and large against the concept because it takes away from their core business of selling tobacco. Revenue authorities don’t support e-cigs because they currently provide no tax revenue. Health bodies are in debate over the issue but usually claim that there is no scientific evidence to show that vaping does not harm people’s health. Since they were only introduced around 2004; there is obviously no long term study evidence available as yet.

Relatively New; Not Fully Approved – Where To Buy It?

To some extent, the vaping scene could be likened to a sort of popular underground movement whose supporters network with each other regarding types of devices and mixes of liquids. Against this background, e-cigs have not yet made a big entry into general retail trade. Some supporters of vaping have opened small boutique style shops to cater for the needs of themselves and their friends.

However, as a “techie” sort of product, it is hardly surprising that most people with an interest to Buy Electronic Cigarette are likely to turn to the internet. There are some online stores that only deal with e-cigs, e-juices and accessories; but you are also likely to find that you can buy electronic cigarettes at a number of online cigar stores.

Investigation launched after two military aircraft nearly collide with passenger airliner

Sunday, February 6, 2011

New safety procedures are to be implemented after an American Airlines Boeing 777 came close to colliding with two U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircraft off the coast of New York, United States, last month. Radar data indicates the aircraft came within 1 miles (2 km) of each other before the flight crew of the Boeing 777 took evasive action as an alarm sounded in the cockpit of the jet.

An aviation official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the traffic collision avoidance system alarm which sounded in the cockpit of the passenger jet, which had 259 people aboard, “may be what saved the day,” since C-17 cargo aircraft are not highly manoeuvrable. Investigators have reportedly found the aircraft would have collided head-on.

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a “major investigation” into the incident, and confirmed there were no injuries in the incident. The Federal Aviation Administration, the government department responsible for aviation in the U.S., said in a statement air traffic controllers are “reviewing a variety of procedures including the handling of formation flights, aircraft near sector boundaries.”

Correction — August 24, 2015 These briefs incorrectly describe BP as ‘British Petroleum’. In fact, such a company has not existed for many years as BP dropped this name when becoming a multinational company. The initials no longer stand for anything.

German authorities will dedicate resources of the federal budget to improve information about renewable resources on the German version of Wikipedia. Entries on this topic will be managed by a private-sector body.

The challenge will be to motivate experts to get involved in the community lexicon. Such expert are used to publish in the normal newspapers. But Wikipedia is radically different: articles there continually grow with input from numerous authors, who often remain anonymous. The end product is constantly changing, and third parties can publish their own texts or even change them.

Living with HIV during COVID-19: Wikinews talks to HIV-positive sex workers about how pandemic has affected their lives

Sunday, October 18, 2020

The spread of coronavirus led to a global pandemic, affecting various daily activities. Originated in Wuhan, China, the virus spread globally, and by March, drastic measures were taken by the Indian government. Some branches of the South Western Railway of India had started taking precautions by distributing masks to ticket collectors and guards from as early as March 8. Some colleges were suspended by March 13, their exams post-poned as the government introduced lockdown and enforced social distancing.

Announced in the evening, Indian Prime Minister asked the countrymen to get the essential products and avoid going out as much as possible. Long queues outside the grocery shops, people in masks, some in N-95 masks, and hand sanitisers at the gates of megamarts were a common sight. There were reduced items in the shops, and some stores had a limit of number of customers allowed in the store at any given time. Food delivery services, and taxi services were on haitus — workers who dependent on the profession for their daily income, while software engineers were working from home. Physical classes in schools and colleges were replaced by online lectures to prevent social gatherings.

While many relied on technology for continuing their work and earn their livelihood, Wikinews reached out to sex workers in Mysore in June who unlike others can’t maintain social distancing for their work. Two sex-workers, Akram Pasha, and Jaya (a pseudonym), who were a part of sex-worker’s group called “Ashodaya Samithi” discussed how their lives had been affected by the coronavirus, the lockdown and the restrictions they had faced.
